Please identify evergreen large tree exotic to South Africa

Hi!

 

I think this evergreen (?) tree with large, Deltoid (?) leaves with clear veins on the top is exotic to South Africa; Perhaps some Birch? It has a white bark with dark horizontal marks on younger branches, the old trunks are very rough. Branches seem to die and drop from time to time. Tree is roundish and ~ 12m broad by 15m high. I've seen about 20 of them planted around here, though none of them were planted recently.

Looks might be a type of Popular.

Populus something?

I'm guessing though.

Thanks for the tip Alan! Yes, I think it is a hybrid poplar, Populus x canadensis, which is already listed here

but it looks a bit different since a number of different hybrids exist which all fall under the same name:
