Veltheimia bracteata
Veltheimia bracteata (Forrest Lily, Sand onion, Winter red hot poker)
is a frost hardy perennial semi-evergreen bulb with pink flowers in early Spring and late Winter. It grows well in shade and semi-shade, and prefers medium levels of water. The flowers are tubular shaped arranged in a raceme inflorescence. It looks best in Spring and Winter.Soil
Veltheimia bracteata grows in soils ranging from a pH of 5 (extremely acidic ranges from 0 to 5.1) to 7.5 (neutral ranges from 6.6 to 7.5). It is adapted to clay loam, loam, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils, and prefers high fertility.
Growth
This is a erect bulb has a fast rate of growth and has a clump forming growth form, and has an ultimate height of 0.5m / 1.6ft and spread of 0.4m / 1.1ft. It can take 2-3 years to reach its ultimate height.

It has green leaves. They are oblanceolate in shape.
Exposure
The plant prefers a sheltered situation.
Uses
Architectural, container plant, flower border and bed, shade plant, tropical effect, under shrubs and woodland margin.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is brown and the seed is black. There is a fruit/seed abundance beginning in Summer and ending in Autumn.
